ClinConnect Summary
This clinical trial is looking at whether low levels of vitamin D in pregnant women affect how often and how badly their blood pressure drops during spinal anesthesia for a planned cesarean section. Spinal anesthesia is a common method used to numb the lower half of the body during a cesarean, but it can sometimes cause low blood pressure, which may be risky for both mom and baby. Since many pregnant women have low vitamin D, the study wants to see if this deficiency makes blood pressure drops more likely or more severe during the surgery.
Women who are 18 years or older, pregnant, and scheduled for a planned cesarean under spinal anesthesia may be able to join the study, as long as they don’t have certain heart or nervous system problems, aren’t taking vitamin D supplements recently, and can safely have blood drawn. Participants will have their vitamin D levels checked before surgery, and their blood pressure and heart function will be closely watched during the operation. This research may help doctors find better ways to care for moms at risk of low blood pressure during cesarean deliveries.
