Resistance Training Postpartum Health Adverse Pregnancy Outcomes

ClinConnect Summary

This clinical trial is studying how a special exercise program called resistance training—where you use weights or your own body to build strength—might help people who recently had a difficult pregnancy. These difficulties can include conditions like high blood pressure during pregnancy, diabetes that starts during pregnancy, having a smaller or early-born baby, or other related health issues. The goal is to see if doing this kind of exercise twice a week for four weeks can support recovery after these challenging pregnancies.

Women between the ages of 18 and 45 who had one baby in their most recent pregnancy, experienced one of these pregnancy complications, and are between 3 to 15 months postpartum may be eligible. Participants need to be cleared by their doctor to exercise and willing to visit the University of Michigan’s School of Kinesiology twice a week for the workouts. They will also receive daily messages asking if they completed their exercises, which helps keep track of progress. The study is not yet recruiting, but if you fit these criteria and are interested, this program could offer a structured way to safely regain strength after a tough pregnancy.
