ClinConnect Summary
This study is looking at breast reconstruction surgery in women who have previously had weight loss surgery, such as bariatric surgery. Researchers want to understand how common it is for these women to get breast implants and whether they face different risks or complications after surgery compared to women who haven’t had weight loss surgery. They will also explore how different types of breast reconstruction—done either at the same time as a mastectomy (removal of the breast) or later—affect outcomes, including surgeries done to reduce cancer risk. The goal is to find out if certain factors make complications more likely in women who have lost a lot of weight before their breast surgery.
Women who are eligible for this study are those already included in national health registers for weight loss surgery and breast cancer or breast implant surgery. Participants won’t undergo any new treatments for the study; instead, researchers will use existing health data collected from several national registers to compare outcomes between women who have had weight loss surgery and those who have not. If you have had weight loss surgery and are considering or have had breast reconstruction, this study aims to help doctors better understand your risks and improve care for women in similar situations.
