ClinConnect Summary
This clinical trial is looking at how families of children with complex medical needs feel about a special type of genetic testing called pharmacogenetic testing. This testing helps doctors understand how a child might respond to certain medicines based on their genes. The study wants to see if, when cost and access are not problems, families are willing to have this testing done for their child, what challenges might still exist, and what their overall thoughts are about this kind of testing.
Children who might join this study are those with complex health conditions who receive care at the Cincinnati Children’s Complex Care Clinic. To be eligible, the child’s medical needs must meet a specific level of complexity, and their caregiver needs to be available during the clinic visit. If families choose to participate, the child will be offered the genetic test for free, and caregivers will be asked to fill out a survey. Some caregivers may also be invited to take part in a short interview to share their experiences and opinions. This study is currently not enrolling participants yet, but it aims to help improve how genetic testing can be used to personalize care for children with complex health needs.
