ClinConnect Summary
This is an observational study (not a treatment trial) that will follow about 20 women who are undergoing a hysterectomy with at least one ovary kept. The researchers want to learn how common and how severe vasomotor symptoms—things like hot flashes, night sweats, increased sweating, sleep problems, and heart palpitations—are in the short term after surgery. Participants will fill out a short survey before surgery and again about two weeks after surgery to compare how often these symptoms occur and how bothersome they are. There will also be optional open-ended questions to hear what patients experience in their own words.
Eligible participants are cisgender women aged 35 to 50 who are scheduled for hysterectomy and will retain at least one ovary, and who can give informed consent. The study is being conducted at Northwestern University in Chicago and is enrolling by invitation. There are no FDA-regulated drugs or devices involved, and results are not yet available. If you’re interested, you would contribute by completing surveys around the time of surgery, with the main analysis looking at changes from before surgery to about two weeks after.
