ClinConnect Summary
This clinical trial is studying two different techniques to help people with Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD), a lung condition that makes it hard to breathe due to long-term damage like chronic bronchitis or emphysema. The trial compares a breathing exercise called the Active Cycle of Breathing Technique (ACBT) alone with ACBT combined with a gentle relaxation method called Subtle Touch, which aims to reduce muscle tension and promote overall relaxation. The goal is to see if adding this gentle touch technique can improve breathing and quality of life better than breathing exercises alone.
People who might be eligible for this study are men and women between 45 and 65 years old who have mild to moderate COPD. Those with recent chest injuries, lung infections, muscle or bone problems, or high blood pressure in the lungs are not eligible. Participants will be randomly divided into two groups, each practicing their assigned techniques three times a day for 15 minutes over eight weeks. The study will take place at Jinnah Hospital’s pulmonology department, where lung function and symptoms like breathlessness and cough will be regularly checked using simple tests and questionnaires. This study is currently recruiting participants and aims to find new ways to help people with COPD breathe easier and feel better.
