ClinConnect Summary

This study, called the RUPTURE Project, is looking at a specific complication that can happen during a type of kidney surgery called robotic partial nephrectomy, which is used to remove kidney tumors. Sometimes, the tumor’s outer layer accidentally breaks open during the surgery—a situation known as tumor rupture. This happens in about 10-15% of cases, but doctors don’t yet fully understand how this might affect the patient’s chances of the cancer coming back or spreading. The study aims to gather information from at least 100 patients who have experienced this rupture to learn more about what causes it, how it is managed during surgery, and what the long-term outcomes are.

Adults between 18 and 80 years old who have had this type of surgery and experienced tumor rupture may be eligible to take part, as long as they agree to join the study. Participants will receive the usual care for their condition, and the study will simply collect information about their health, the surgery, and follow-up visits over five years to track cancer recurrence or spread. There are no extra tests or treatments involved. This research hopes to help doctors improve surgical techniques and patient safety in the future. Participation is voluntary, and all personal information is kept confidential.
