ClinConnect Summary
This clinical trial is studying how the lungs work during the process of taking patients off a breathing machine (ventilator) in people who have had serious brain injuries. The researchers are using a special, non-invasive tool called electrical impedance tomography (EIT) to watch how air moves in different parts of the lungs as patients begin to breathe on their own again. The goal is to find patterns that might help doctors predict who will successfully come off the ventilator.
People who might join this study are adults (18 years or older) who are in the intensive care unit (ICU) with a recent brain injury and have been on a ventilator for more than two days. Their healthcare team is planning to start the process of removing the ventilator soon. If you join, you can expect to have this lung monitoring done while your care team helps you breathe independently. The study is not yet open for participants, and certain people, like pregnant women or those who are very close to end-of-life care, will not be eligible. This research could help improve care for patients with brain injuries who need breathing support in the future.
