ClinConnect Summary

This clinical trial is studying how well the antibiotic cefazolin reaches the fluid around the brain and spinal cord (called cerebrospinal fluid) during surgery to place a ventricular shunt—a small tube used to treat hydrocephalus, a condition where fluid builds up in the brain. The researchers want to find out if the usual dose of cefazolin (2 grams) is enough to protect the implanted valve from infection. They will also compare their findings to existing information about how cefazolin moves through the body and look for any factors that might explain differences.

Adults over 18 who are scheduled for ventricular shunt surgery at a specific hospital in Strasbourg may be eligible to join, as long as they are not pregnant, currently infected, allergic to cefazolin, or already taking other antibiotics. Participants will receive the standard antibiotic before surgery, and the researchers will measure how much of the drug reaches the cerebrospinal fluid during the valve implantation. This study has not started recruiting yet, and anyone interested should discuss eligibility and participation with their healthcare team.
