ClinConnect Summary

This clinical trial is looking at whether adding electroacupuncture—a treatment where small electrical currents are applied through acupuncture needles—can help reduce pain and anxiety in men undergoing a prostate biopsy using a local numbing medicine. A prostate biopsy is a common way to check for prostate cancer by taking small samples of prostate tissue through the skin between the scrotum and anus (called the transperineal approach). While this procedure is usually done with local anesthesia, some men still experience discomfort and worry. This study aims to see if combining electroacupuncture with local anesthesia can make the procedure more comfortable and safe.

Men between the ages of 18 and 80 who need a prostate biopsy and agree to participate may be eligible. However, men with certain infections, ongoing pain conditions, use of anxiety or pain medicines, heart problems, bleeding risks, uncontrolled other health issues, skin problems near the biopsy area, or certain psychological conditions would not be able to take part. Those in the study will receive the usual local anesthesia along with electroacupuncture before the biopsy to see if it helps. This trial has not started recruiting yet, but it hopes to find better ways to make prostate biopsies less painful and stressful for patients.
