ClinConnect Summary

This clinical trial is studying how children’s vision develops over five years after they have surgery to remove cataracts they were born with. Cataracts are cloudy areas in the eye that can affect sight, and this study focuses on children who had their cataracts removed before they turned one year old. The researchers want to see how well these children can see with the best possible correction (like glasses), how well they perceive depth (called stereopsis), changes in their eye’s focusing ability, and how their eyes grow over time. Understanding these long-term results will help doctors better predict and improve vision outcomes for kids treated early for congenital cataracts.

Children who were diagnosed with congenital cataracts and had surgery before their first birthday may be eligible to join, as long as they don’t have other eye problems or health conditions that affect vision, and they can commit to regular eye check-ups for at least five years after surgery. Parents or guardians will need to give written permission for their child to participate. If enrolled, families can expect ongoing eye exams to monitor vision and eye growth, helping researchers gather important information about how early cataract surgery impacts vision in the long run. This study is currently looking for participants.
