ClinConnect Summary
This study is looking at ways to better support young adults who have been hurt in an assault and also use alcohol or cannabis. The goal is to improve a short, motivating conversation that takes place in the emergency room to help these young people feel more confident about making positive changes in their alcohol and cannabis use. Researchers will also explore how friends and family might influence their habits and involvement in violence. The team will use a careful, step-by-step process to test and adapt this conversation to make it more helpful.
To join the study, participants need to be between 18 and 25 years old, speak English, and have recently been injured by someone who is not a boyfriend, girlfriend, fiancé, or spouse. They must also currently misuse alcohol or cannabis and be able to give consent to participate. People who are actively suicidal, seriously mentally impaired, involved in addiction treatment, in police custody, or who were hurt by a partner or in a sexual assault won’t be eligible. If you take part, you will be asked to share your experiences through interviews and surveys and might take part in the improved conversation during your emergency room visit. This study has not started recruiting participants yet.
