ClinConnect Summary
This clinical trial is studying a new way to help treat periodontitis, which is a serious gum disease caused by harmful bacteria around the teeth. The trial looks at using photodynamic therapy (PDT) alongside the usual deep cleaning treatment (called scaling and root planing). PDT uses a special light-activated medicine that helps kill bacteria more effectively without harming healthy tissues. The goal is to see if adding this light therapy can improve healing, reduce bacteria better, and possibly avoid more invasive treatments.
Adults with periodontitis who have at least 10 teeth and haven’t had recent gum treatment, antibiotics, or certain medications may be eligible to join. People with diabetes, pregnant or breastfeeding women, or those with very severe gum damage are not included. Participants will receive the standard cleaning treatment, and some will also get the light-based therapy. This study is currently looking for volunteers and aims to find safer, more effective ways to manage gum disease.
