Postoperative Pain Nephrectomy Paravertevral Block External Oblique Intercostal Block

ClinConnect Summary

This clinical trial is studying two different methods of pain relief used during surgery for kidney removal (called open nephrectomy). The researchers want to find out which method—either the external oblique intercostal block or the paravertebral block—works better to reduce pain and lower the chance of complications after surgery.

People who might join this study are adults aged 18 to 90 who have a specific type of kidney cancer (stage 2 renal cell carcinoma) and are scheduled for open kidney removal surgery without lymph node removal. Participants need to be in generally good health, able to understand and agree to the study, and have no serious nerve problems, liver failure, blood clotting issues, or allergies to local anesthetics (numbing medicines). If you join, you can expect to receive one of the two pain-relief treatments during surgery, and the medical team will monitor your pain levels and any side effects afterward to see which method helps you recover better.
