ClinConnect Summary

This clinical trial is studying how well two materials—chitosan (a natural substance often used to help wounds heal) and injectable platelet-rich fibrin (i-PRF, a substance made from the patient’s own blood that can promote healing)—help the mouth heal after a common gum surgery called a free gingival graft. This surgery takes tissue from the roof of the mouth (the palate) to improve gum health, but the spot where the tissue is taken from can often hurt and take a long time to heal. The study will compare three groups of patients: one treated with a standard material (gelatin sponge), one with chitosan alone, and one with chitosan combined with i-PRF to see which helps the wound heal faster and with less discomfort.

People who might join this study are adults with healthy gums and good oral hygiene who need this specific gum surgery because they don’t have enough firm gum tissue in one area. However, people with certain health problems—like uncontrolled diabetes, active gum disease, heavy smokers, or those who are pregnant or breastfeeding—won’t be able to participate. If you take part, you can expect your healing to be closely monitored over two months, with regular check-ins to assess pain, bleeding, any burning sensations, changes in eating habits, and how well the tissue color matches up as it heals. This research hopes to find better ways to make recovery after gum graft surgery quicker and more comfortable.
