ClinConnect Summary

This clinical trial is comparing two types of nerve blocks—called the PENG block and the femoral block—to see which one works better for relieving pain after a hip fracture. If you come to the hospital with a broken hip and agree to receive a nerve block for pain relief, you will be given either the PENG block or the femoral block based on a schedule that changes every month. The study will also look closely at whether the type of hip fracture (inside or outside the hip joint) affects how well each block works.

To take part, you need to be 18 years or older, have a confirmed hip fracture shown on an X-ray, and be able to give consent for the nerve block. People who cannot communicate their pain clearly, refuse the nerve block, have allergies to the medications used, or are already taking strong pain medicines for chronic pain before surgery will not be eligible. If you join the trial, you can expect to receive one of the two nerve blocks to help control your pain, and your care team will monitor how well it works. This study is not yet recruiting participants but aims to help improve pain relief options for people with hip fractures.
