ClinConnect Summary
This clinical trial is looking at how the brain’s electrical activity changes during sedation or anesthesia for common procedures like gastroscopy (checking the stomach) and colonoscopy (checking the large intestine). Doctors will use a special device to continuously monitor brain waves during these procedures to better understand how deeply patients are sedated. The goal is to see how much time patients spend at different levels of sedation and if very deep sedation, which can sometimes show a specific brain pattern called “burst suppression,” occurs.
Adults aged 18 to 74 who are having a gastroscopy or colonoscopy as outpatients with sedation or anesthesia may be eligible to join. People with serious kidney or liver problems, certain liver conditions, or brain issues that affect EEG results will not be able to participate. If you take part, your anesthesiologist will give medications as usual, but the brain monitoring device will record your brain activity during the procedure without affecting your care. This study helps doctors learn more about sedation safety and how to better tailor anesthesia during these common procedures.
