ClinConnect Summary

This clinical trial is studying how well a special type of ultrasound test, called a renal artery duplex, works in very sick patients who have sudden kidney problems (known as acute kidney injury). The test looks at blood flow in the kidneys and measures something called the renal resistive index (RRI), which can help doctors understand how the kidneys are doing. The goal is to find out if this ultrasound test is helpful for patients who are critically ill and have just been admitted to the intensive care unit (ICU).

Adults over 18 years old who have been admitted to the ICU within the last 24 hours may be eligible to join, as long as they don’t have certain conditions like chronic kidney disease, kidney transplant, or kidney artery problems. Pregnant patients and those with certain kidney abnormalities are also not eligible. If you join the study, you can expect to have this non-invasive ultrasound test done, which is painless and uses sound waves to look at your kidneys. This study is still recruiting patients, and the information gained could help doctors better understand and care for critically ill patients with sudden kidney issues.
