ClinConnect Summary

This study is trying out a new program to make it easier for men who have sex with men (MSM) in Lima, Peru, to get tested for HIV and to connect them with the right treatment or prevention services based on their results. The program has two parts: first, it offers HIV testing at places where people often meet for sex, called "sex-on-premises venues" (SOPVs). Second, it provides a mobile phone app that sends weekly messages with helpful information about HIV and lets users message a healthcare worker if they need support. The messages and information you get depend on the type of HIV test you choose and your test results.

If you’re 18 or older, identify as gay, bisexual, or a man who has sex with other men, and visit one of these venues, you might be able to join. You’ll need to have a mobile phone that can send and receive text messages and be comfortable reading and writing. When you take part, you’ll be offered one of several HIV testing options on the night you’re recruited: a rapid test with results right away, a self-test kit to take home, a coupon for a free test at a health center, or your choice of any of these (only one option is offered each night, at random). After testing, you’ll use the app for three months to get weekly messages and support. The researchers will check how many people join the program, keep using the app, complete HIV testing, and start treatment or prevention during the study. All follow-up is done remotely, so you can participate without extra clinic visits.
