ClinConnect Summary

This clinical trial is studying how Wilson’s disease, a rare genetic condition that causes copper to build up in the body, affects the kidneys. While Wilson’s disease is known to impact organs like the liver and brain, its effects on the kidneys are not well understood. This study aims to better describe kidney problems that may happen directly from copper buildup or indirectly from other complications. It will also look at how common kidney issues are in people with Wilson’s disease and how they might affect overall health.

The trial is open to anyone aged 7 and older who has been diagnosed with Wilson’s disease using a specific scoring system (Leipzig score of 4 or higher). People who have had organ transplants, kidney problems unrelated to Wilson’s disease, or who are pregnant or breastfeeding cannot join. Participants can expect to undergo tests that check kidney function and look for early signs of kidney damage. Understanding kidney involvement better could help improve monitoring and care for people with Wilson’s disease, potentially preventing serious kidney problems in the future.
