ClinConnect Summary

This trial is testing whether different nursing education programs help people on hemodialysis keep their phosphorus levels in a healthy range. It uses a randomized design with nine different education plans that vary how often patients learn about phosphorus in their diet, how to use phosphate binders, or both. Participants will be assigned to one plan and receive 1 to 3 education sessions over about 12 weeks. Researchers will check serum phosphorus every two weeks with blood tests (about 6 draws total) to see which education approach works best.

Who can join and what to expect: the study is for people who have been on dialysis for more than a year and are taking phosphate-lowering medicines. It’s being conducted at the Wei-Hua clinic in Taichung, Taiwan, under the Jen-Ai Hospital Institutional Review Board. It’s open-label (no placebo or masking), with about 45 participants planned. If you join, you’ll complete the education sessions you’re assigned to and undergo blood tests every couple of weeks; the study aims to identify an effective, practical education plan to improve phosphorus control, ease nursing workload, and guide future training. Informed consent materials are available, and the study’s primary results will determine the best educational approach, though results are not yet available.
