ClinConnect Summary
This clinical trial is studying whether giving children a dose of magnesium by mouth before surgery can help reduce a common problem called emergence agitation. Emergence agitation is when children become confused, restless, or upset as they wake up from anesthesia after having their tonsils and adenoids removed (a surgery called adenotonsillectomy). The study will look at how often this happens and how severe it is in children who receive magnesium compared to those who don’t.
Children aged 4 to 7 years who are healthy enough for surgery and are scheduled for adenotonsillectomy using a specific type of anesthesia called sevoflurane may be eligible to take part. Children with certain health issues, behavioral problems, or allergies to magnesium cannot join. If a child participates, their parents will give consent, and the child will receive oral magnesium before surgery. The research team will then carefully observe the child’s recovery to see if magnesium helps make waking up from anesthesia smoother and less upsetting. This study is not yet recruiting participants but aims to find better ways to help children feel more comfortable after surgery.
