ClinConnect Summary
This clinical trial is studying acute kidney injury (AKI) in newborn babies who are cared for in the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU). AKI happens when the kidneys suddenly stop working properly, which can lead to problems with removing waste and balancing fluids in the body. Newborns, especially those who are very sick or born early, are at higher risk for this condition. The study aims to better understand how often AKI occurs in these babies, how to diagnose it early, and how to improve their care to prevent long-term kidney problems.
Babies who are between birth and 28 days old and show signs of AKI—such as low urine output or increased waste products in the blood—may be eligible for this study, as long as their parents agree to participate. Babies who have had recent surgery, major kidney abnormalities, or a family history of kidney failure will not be included. If enrolled, families can expect careful monitoring of the baby’s kidney function through tests like blood and urine checks. The goal is to catch kidney issues early and tailor treatment to each baby’s needs, helping to improve their chances of recovery and reduce complications.
