ClinConnect Summary
This clinical trial is testing a program called "Conmigo," designed to help Latina girls aged 8 to 11 and their mothers become more physically active together. The study wants to see if participating in this 10-week program can increase the amount of moderate to vigorous physical activity (like brisk walking, running, or playing sports) that the girls get each day. The program focuses on improving how mothers and daughters communicate and support each other around being active, with weekly group sessions led by YMCA staff at local elementary schools.
To join, girls must identify as Latina, be between 8 and 11 years old, attend one of the participating schools, and currently get less than the recommended 60 minutes of daily physical activity. Their mothers must also identify as Latina, be their primary caregiver, and be able to attend all the sessions with their daughters. During the program, mother-daughter pairs will meet once a week for about two hours, take part in physical activities, set goals, and learn ways to encourage healthy habits at home. The study will compare this physical activity program to a different 10-week program focused on healthy eating, to see which helps increase activity levels more. This research hopes to find new ways to support Latina families in leading healthier, more active lives.
