ClinConnect Summary

This clinical trial is studying how enlarged adenoids (called adenoid hypertrophy) might affect a muscle in the face called the masseter muscle, which helps with chewing. The study focuses on children aged 3 to 8 years old. Researchers want to see if having enlarged adenoids changes the size or structure of this muscle compared to children without this condition. They will also look at how this might relate to the way the teeth come together (bite).

Children who have been diagnosed with enlarged adenoids and are scheduled to have surgery to remove them may be eligible to join the study, along with healthy children without enlarged adenoids. Participants will have a painless ultrasound scan of the masseter muscle, which uses sound waves to create pictures of the muscle’s thickness and structure. The study will also record information about the child’s teeth and bite, as well as their age and gender. Children who have had previous adenoid surgery, certain facial syndromes, or multiple missing teeth, or who cannot cooperate during the exam, will not be included. This study aims to help us better understand how enlarged adenoids might impact facial muscles and dental health in young children.
