ClinConnect Summary
SnapNSTI is an international, time-limited observational study about necrotizing soft-tissue infections (NSTIs), a serious infection that requires quick surgery and antibiotics. It does not test a new treatment. Instead, researchers will collect information on how NSTIs are treated in real-world practice and how patients do after treatment, with the main goal of understanding 90-day survival and how care varies across centers.
Who can take part? Adults 18 and older who have NSTI confirmed by surgical/histopathological evidence or by imaging (such as gas in the tissue) and are admitted to a participating hospital during the enrollment window. Participants receive standard care as determined by their doctors. They will be followed to track outcomes such as 90-day mortality, days without organ support in the first 30 days, hospital and ICU length of stay, any additional surgeries, and 60-day quality of life. About 480 participants are expected worldwide. The study is led by European Trauma and Emergency Surgery societies with partners including the University of Pennsylvania and Hospital del Mar, and de-identified data may be shared with researchers later for further study.
