ClinConnect Summary
This clinical trial is looking at whether coloring mandalas—a type of circular, patterned drawing—can help reduce anxiety and stress in people before they have planned (elective) surgery. Surgery can often make patients feel very nervous, so this study wants to see if this simple, art-based activity can make a positive difference in how patients feel while waiting for their operation. The study is happening at a hospital in Istanbul and will include adults who are scheduled for surgery, can communicate clearly, don’t have hand injuries, and are willing to participate.
If you join the study, you’ll be randomly placed into one of two groups. One group will spend 20 minutes coloring a mandala before surgery, while the other group will receive the usual care without the coloring activity. Researchers will measure anxiety and stress levels before and after this time, as well as check vital signs like blood pressure and pulse. This study is important because if mandala coloring helps reduce stress, it could be an easy and low-cost way for nurses to support patients’ emotional well-being before surgery. However, people with certain conditions like psychiatric diagnoses, color blindness, or those over 70 years old won’t be eligible to take part.
