ClinConnect Summary
This clinical trial is studying whether a simple, low-cost diet can help people lose weight and keep their muscle mass after bariatric surgery, which is a type of surgery to help with weight loss. The diet follows recommended guidelines and uses foods that are easy to find locally. The study will also check if this diet helps maintain healthy levels of important vitamins and minerals like vitamin B12, iron, and vitamin D. Researchers want to see if this affordable diet works as well as the usual hospital diet, making it easier for people with limited income to follow after surgery.
Adults aged 18 to 65 who are having their first bariatric surgery, such as gastric bypass or sleeve gastrectomy, may be eligible to join the study. People with certain health conditions that affect nutrient absorption or who are having repeat surgeries are not eligible. Participants will be randomly assigned to follow either the low-cost diet or the regular hospital diet. Their weight, body composition, and nutrient levels will be checked before surgery and then again at 1, 3, and 6 months afterward. This study aims to find a practical and affordable way to support patients’ recovery and long-term health after bariatric surgery.
