ClinConnect Summary

This clinical trial is studying how a special breathing exercise, called incentive respiratory training, might help improve lung function and overall fitness in children with β-thalassemia major, a blood disorder that often requires regular blood transfusions. The researchers also want to see how this training affects oxygen levels and heart rate before and after these transfusions.

Children between 6 and 10 years old who have been diagnosed with β-thalassemia major and receive blood transfusions may be eligible to join. Both boys and girls who can follow simple instructions can participate. However, children with certain disabilities, vision or hearing problems, or heart and lung diseases are not eligible. If your child takes part, they will be guided through breathing exercises using a device called an incentive spirometer, and their lung function, oxygen levels, and heart rate will be monitored during the study to see if the training helps improve their breathing and overall health.
