ClinConnect Summary
This clinical trial is looking at a new way to predict how patients with upper gastrointestinal bleeding (bleeding in the stomach or the first part of the small intestine) might do after they are treated. Specifically, researchers want to see if a score called the HALP score—which uses common blood test results—can help doctors figure out who is at higher risk of bleeding again or of serious complications, including death. This study will take place at Sohag University Hospitals and aims to improve care by identifying patients who need closer monitoring or more treatment.
People who might be eligible to join this study are adults aged 18 or older who come to the emergency room with confirmed upper gastrointestinal bleeding, verified by a test called an endoscopy. To be included, patients must have blood test results available for albumin (a protein), hemoglobin (a part of red blood cells), platelets (cells that help blood clot), and a measure of blood clotting called INR. Pregnant women and patients missing important clinical information will not be included. If you participate, your doctors will use your test results to calculate the HALP score and follow your health closely to see if the score helps predict your recovery and risks. This study is not yet open for enrollment.
