ClinConnect Summary
This clinical trial is looking at a new way to help people who have recently been hospitalized after trying to take their own life. The study combines support from peers—people who have experienced similar struggles—and a tool called the Hope Box. The Hope Box is a personal container where participants keep items like photos, notes, or mementos that remind them of reasons to keep going and give them comfort during tough times. Along with a follow-up postcard, this approach aims to build hope and highlight personal strengths, rather than just focusing on risks.
People who might join the study are adults who have attempted suicide within the month before being hospitalized in a psychiatric crisis unit, can understand and communicate in French, and are able to give their informed consent. Participants will work with peer supporters and use the Hope Box during their hospital stay. The study will check if this approach is practical and see if it helps reduce feelings of hopelessness, improves confidence in coping, strengthens reasons for living, and lowers the chance of another suicide attempt over the next three months. This trial involves 40 patients and is not yet recruiting.
