Hydrocortisone Lidocaine Endotracheal Tube Neuromonitoring Randomized Controlled Trial

ClinConnect Summary

This clinical trial is studying ways to reduce throat pain, hoarseness, and coughing after surgery on the thyroid or parathyroid glands, which are located in the neck. During these surgeries, a tube is placed in the windpipe to help with breathing while under anesthesia. The study will test whether coating this breathing tube with either hydrocortisone ointment or lidocaine solution can help make patients feel more comfortable after surgery.

Adults who are having planned thyroid or parathyroid surgery and agree to take part may be eligible. People who are pregnant, allergic to hydrocortisone or lidocaine, or who do not want to join the study cannot participate. If you join, you will be randomly assigned to receive one of the two coated tubes without knowing which one it is. Doctors will then check how your throat feels right after waking up, one day later, and again three days after surgery. The goal is to find better ways to help patients recover more comfortably after these types of neck surgeries.
