ClinConnect Summary
This clinical trial is studying whether children with congenital hypothyroidism—a condition where the thyroid gland doesn’t work properly from birth—are more likely to develop metabolic syndrome. Metabolic syndrome is a group of health problems like high blood pressure, high blood sugar, and extra body fat that can increase the risk of heart disease and diabetes. The study will compare children with congenital hypothyroidism who have not yet started puberty to healthy children of the same age and weight to see if thyroid problems affect their overall metabolic health.
Children who are eligible to join the study are those between about 5 and 12 years old (before puberty starts), have permanent congenital hypothyroidism, and whose parents or guardians agree to participate. Children who have only temporary thyroid problems or who have already begun puberty will not be included. Participants will likely undergo health check-ups to assess their metabolic health, helping doctors learn more about how thyroid conditions might impact children’s risk for other health issues. This information could improve how doctors monitor and care for children with congenital hypothyroidism in the future.
