ClinConnect Summary
This clinical trial, called the ORACLE study, is looking at whether a special, step-by-step approach to oral care can help people who are very sick and need help breathing with a machine (called mechanical ventilation) in the hospital’s intensive care unit (ICU). The main goal is to see if this improved oral care can help patients spend more days off the breathing machine, which is an important sign of recovery. The study also aims to reduce infections, like pneumonia that can happen from being on a ventilator.
Anyone who is receiving mechanical ventilation in the participating ICUs may be eligible to take part, regardless of age or gender. If you join the study, your care team will follow a specific oral hygiene routine designed to keep your mouth clean and healthy, which could help prevent infections and support your recovery. This study is not yet recruiting patients, but when it starts, it will focus on whether this standardized oral care can make a real difference in the health and recovery of critically ill patients.
