ClinConnect Summary
This clinical trial is studying how two types of exercise—Tai Chi and a combined moderate-intensity workout—affect heart health, blood sugar control, and physical abilities in older adults with type 2 diabetes. The goal is to see if Tai Chi, a gentle form of exercise involving slow, flowing movements, can provide similar or better benefits compared to more traditional exercise like walking and strength training. Participants will be randomly assigned to one of three groups: Tai Chi, moderate exercise, or no exercise, for 12 weeks.
People eligible for the study are older adults diagnosed with type 2 diabetes who are able to safely perform physical activity. Those with severe foot problems or risks that make exercise unsafe won’t be able to join. If you participate, you’ll attend exercise sessions three times a week, either practicing Tai Chi or doing a mix of walking and strength exercises, with the intensity gradually increasing over time. Your heart health, blood sugar levels, physical fitness, and quality of life will be carefully checked before and after the program by trained staff. This study aims to provide helpful information for doctors and patients about the best types of exercise to manage diabetes and stay healthy as we age.
