ClinConnect Summary

Researchers are studying whether a heart-to-brain blood flow test, called the Middle Cerebral Artery Doppler (MCA-PSV), measured in the third trimester, can help predict how babies will do after birth in pregnancies affected by anemia. This is an observational study, meaning there is no experimental treatment—just data collection from real-world care. They plan to enroll about 100 pregnant women with anemia at Sohag University Hospital in Egypt and follow outcomes through birth and early infancy, with results expected by May 2026.

To be eligible, women must be in the third trimester, have a single pregnancy, and have anemia (hemoglobin 11 g/dL or lower). Exclusions include pregnancies with twins or higher risk conditions like fetal abnormalities or other maternal diseases such as diabetes or preeclampsia. Participants will receive standard care plus the MCA Doppler test, and researchers will track baby outcomes such as birth weight, NICU admission, APGAR score, placental weight, and neonatal hemoglobin to see if MCA Doppler results relate to these outcomes. The study is sponsored by Sohag University, and data may be shared with other researchers after the study.
