ClinConnect Summary

This study is looking at how different types of hysterectomy surgery (removal of the uterus) might affect the chances of developing pelvic organ prolapse (when organs like the bladder or uterus shift out of place) or urinary incontinence (unexpected urine leakage) afterward. The researchers want to understand if the way the surgery is done—whether through small cuts using a camera (laparoscopic), open surgery, vaginal surgery, or robotic-assisted surgery—makes a difference in these risks. This study will follow women aged 18 to 85 who have had their uterus removed for non-cancerous reasons.

Women who had a hysterectomy between 2021 and 2025 may be invited to join the study. If they participate, they will fill out questionnaires about their quality of life every two years and attend pelvic exams to check healing and any signs of prolapse or urinary problems. The study plans to include about 2,000 women and will last from 2025 to 2036. Women who had surgery for cancer or who had pelvic organ prolapse before surgery cannot join. This research aims to help doctors understand which surgical methods are safest and improve care for women undergoing hysterectomy.
