ClinConnect Summary
This clinical trial is looking at how well a device called the Air-Q Intubating Laryngeal Airway works in older adults who are having surgery under general anesthesia. Specifically, the study will compare its use in two groups: those who have no teeth (edentulous) and those who still have their teeth (dentate). The goal is to see how effective the device is and whether it causes any problems like sore throat or other complications after surgery.
The study is open to patients aged 65 to 90 who are having planned surgeries at the hospital and meet certain health criteria. To join, patients should be generally healthy enough for surgery (based on a standard physical health check) and either have no teeth or still have their own teeth. Some people won’t be able to participate, such as those with very difficult airways, severe obesity, high risk of stomach contents coming up during surgery, unstable health, or certain neck and lung problems. If you take part, you can expect the doctors to use the Air-Q device during your anesthesia and then carefully watch for any issues afterward. This study will help doctors understand if this device is safe and effective for older patients with different dental conditions.
