ClinConnect Summary
This clinical trial is studying a special care routine called the "aspiration care bundle" to see if it can help prevent ventilator-associated pneumonia (VAP), a lung infection that can happen to people using machines to help them breathe. Nurses play a big role in preventing this infection by keeping hands clean, providing good mouth care, keeping the patient's head raised at an angle, and using suction to clear fluids from the throat area. This study will look at how well this group of care steps works in an intensive care unit setting.
People who might join this study are adults 18 years or older who are in the pulmonary intensive care unit, connected to a breathing machine through a tube, and have a certain level of alertness (measured by a score called the Glasgow Coma Scale). They need to be expected to stay in the intensive care unit for at least one day and should not already have pneumonia caused by the ventilator. During the study, nurses will follow the aspiration care bundle to provide care, and the team will watch to see if this helps lower the chance of developing pneumonia. This study is not yet recruiting participants, but it aims to improve care for patients who rely on breathing machines in the hospital.
