Sistrunk Procedure

ClinConnect Summary

This study is looking at how children recover after surgery to remove a thyroglossal duct cyst, which is a common lump in the neck that some kids are born with. The surgery is called the Sistrunk procedure. During surgery, some children have a small tube called a drain placed to help remove extra fluids, while others do not. The study wants to find out if having this drain helps kids heal better, reduces problems like infections, or lowers the chance they need extra treatments or have to return to the hospital.

Children who need this surgery may be eligible to join the study. If they do, their doctors will perform the Sistrunk procedure either with or without the drain and then carefully watch how they recover. The doctors will check for any issues during healing and see if using a drain makes a difference in their recovery. This study has not started enrolling participants yet, and it welcomes children of all genders within the appropriate age range for this surgery.
