ClinConnect Summary
This clinical trial is studying a new way to check for eye problems caused by type 1 diabetes in children. The researchers want to see if a special computer program using artificial intelligence (AI) can help detect early signs of diabetic eye disease by looking at pictures of the back of the eye. They will also use other eye tests to compare how well the AI works and to find early nerve damage related to diabetes. The goal is to better understand how common these eye and nerve problems are in children with well-managed type 1 diabetes.
Children and young adults with type 1 diabetes who visit a diabetes care center may be eligible to join the study. Participants will have their eyes examined using a camera that takes pictures without needing eye drops, followed by a traditional eye exam with eye drops to widen the pupils, and another detailed scan called OCT, which is very sensitive for detecting eye changes. For those over 18 years, an additional test called confocal microscopy will look at nerves in the eye to check for nerve damage. After the tests, participants will be asked about their experience to see how comfortable and easy the exams were. This study aims to help improve early detection and care for diabetes-related eye problems in children.
