ClinConnect Summary
This clinical trial is studying how fat builds up in the pancreas (a condition called pancreatic steatosis) and how this might affect the body’s ability to manage blood sugar, especially relating to type 2 diabetes and metabolic syndrome. The main goal is to create a simple ultrasound score that measures the amount of fat in the pancreas and see how this relates to the function of special cells in the pancreas that produce insulin (called beta cells). The study also aims to group people based on their risk for developing type 2 diabetes and see how these risk groups relate to the amount of pancreatic fat.
The study is looking for 100 adults between 18 and 80 years old who are having an ultrasound of their pancreas for medical reasons, but who don’t have certain conditions like pancreatic tumors, cystic fibrosis, or diabetes that requires insulin treatment. Participants will have a one-time visit where doctors will collect medical history, take measurements like weight and blood pressure, perform blood sugar tests, and do blood work. This will help researchers understand how pancreatic fat affects health and diabetes risk. The study will last about two years and could help improve how doctors identify and manage people at risk for type 2 diabetes.
