ClinConnect Summary

This is a laboratory, observational study at the University of Texas Health Science Center in Houston. Researchers will look at donated human plasma to find out how common elevated levels of a brain biomarker called pTau217 are in blood samples. They will measure pTau217 (and total Tau) in the plasma using a specialized nanoneedle sensor. The goal is to see whether some donated plasma might have higher levels of this biomarker and whether that could have any implications for blood transfusion safety. There is no treatment or intervention for participants, and results won’t affect patient care.

Eligible samples are de-identified plasma from healthy adult blood donors, with about 250 samples planned. Donors do not need to take any additional action beyond their routine donation; the study uses leftover samples that pass quality checks and have enough volume. No personal information will be linked to the results. The study is currently recruiting in Houston, started August 28, 2025, with primary completion expected around November 2025 and overall completion by December 2025.
