ClinConnect Summary
This study is a randomized clinical trial to see how well two toothpastes containing 0.454% stannous fluoride work to reduce gingivitis (gum inflammation) and bleeding, compared with a standard toothpaste, and how the two stannous fluoride toothpastes compare with each other after 12 weeks of use. It’s a 3-month study, with measurements of gum bleeding and inflammation and of dental plaque taken at about 1 month and 3 months. The trial is designed so that participants, the researchers, and the people who evaluate the outcomes don’t know which toothpaste is being used, to keep results fair.
Who can join: adults 18 and older who are generally healthy but have mild to moderate gingivitis (gum bleeding on 10–70% of spots) and at least 16 teeth. You must be willing to brush with only the study toothpaste twice a day for 3 months and attend scheduled visits. Exclusions include recent use of certain medicines that could affect gums, certain dental devices or conditions that could interfere with the study, pregnancy, and any allergy to toothpaste ingredients. If eligible, you’ll be randomly assigned to one of three toothpaste groups and will brush for 1 minute twice daily for 3 months, with visits to check bleeding sites, gum health, and plaque. The study is in Whittier, California, sponsored by Procter & Gamble, and currently recruiting with an estimated completion in December 2025.
