Pathogenesis of Periodontal Disease in Individuals With Psoriasis

This is an observational study looking at how psoriasis and gum disease (periodontitis) might be connected. Researchers will examine immune system signals that are linked to Th17 cells in the gum fluid and stress-related substances in saliva, along with standard dental checks of gum health. They want to see if these biological markers relate to how severe gum disease is in people with psoriasis, and they will also ask about social appearance anxiety.

Eligible participants are adults 18–65 who have psoriasis and at least 20 teeth, and who are visiting the university’s dentistry clinic for routine periodontal care. They must not have had periodontal treatment in the last 6 months and cannot be on certain medications or have certain illnesses. On a single Day 1 visit, you’ll have dental measurements (like plaque, gum inflammation, bleeding, pocket depth, and attachment loss), and your gum fluid and saliva will be collected and stored for later analysis. You’ll also complete a short questionnaire about appearance anxiety. There is no current recruitment, and the study is planned to run at Recep Tayyip Erdogan University in Turkey, with results expected after 2026.
