ClinConnect Summary
This clinical trial is studying two different ways to treat acute uncomplicated appendicitis, a condition where the appendix becomes inflamed but has not formed any complications like a perforation. Traditionally, the standard treatment has been an operation called an appendicectomy, which involves removing the appendix. However, this trial is exploring whether antibiotics alone can effectively treat most patients with this condition, potentially avoiding surgery for many.
To participate in the trial, you should be between 18 and 60 years old and have a confirmed diagnosis of uncomplicated acute appendicitis through a CT scan. If you are pregnant, breastfeeding, or have certain medical conditions, you may not be eligible. Participants in the study will be randomly assigned to either receive the surgery or antibiotics. The goal is to see if antibiotics can successfully treat the condition without the need for surgery, which could reduce risks and recovery time for many patients. It’s important to know that this trial is currently active but not recruiting new participants.
