ClinConnect Summary
This clinical trial is studying children with a specific speech and language development disorder, known as STOL (Specific Troubles of Oral Language). Researchers want to understand how well these children can remember and learn spoken words compared to children who develop language skills normally. The study will focus on children between 3 and 8 years old, particularly looking at those whose language challenges improve as they grow. The goal is to see if children with reduced STOL symptoms by ages 4 to 7 perform better in remembering words than those whose symptoms continue past age 6.
To participate, children must be between 3 years 9 months and 7 years 9 months, have normal hearing and vision, and meet certain intelligence testing criteria. Children with STOL must have a diagnosis confirmed by a medical team, while control children should not have had any speech therapy. Parents or legal guardians will need to provide consent for their child to take part. If eligible, participants will engage in activities that assess their ability to memorize and understand spoken language. This trial aims to provide valuable insights into language development and may help improve support for children with language challenges.
