ClinConnect Summary
The VAPERO clinical trial is looking at a new way to help patients with pneumonia who are on ventilators in the hospital. Researchers want to see if using a special test called the Unyvero® multiplex PCR can help doctors choose the right antibiotics more quickly and accurately. This is important because traditional testing methods can take several days, during which time patients may receive antibiotics that aren't the best fit for their specific infection. The goal is to see if this new testing method leads to more patients getting the right treatment sooner than the standard care approach.
To participate in this study, patients need to be adults currently in the intensive care unit (ICU) and suspected of having pneumonia related to their ventilator use. However, individuals with severe immune system issues or those who are extremely ill may not be eligible. If you or a loved one qualifies, you can expect to be part of a study that compares the new testing method to the usual care to see which one works better in providing the right antibiotic treatment for pneumonia.
