ClinConnect Summary
This clinical trial is studying a new approach to treating trigeminal neuralgia (TN), a condition that causes severe facial pain, especially in people with multiple sclerosis (MS). The goal is to see if a personalized method of gamma knife radiosurgery (a type of targeted radiation treatment) can provide better pain relief and fewer side effects compared to the standard method. In the current procedure, the treatment is delivered close to the brainstem, which can sometimes lead to complications like facial numbness. This trial will test a different technique that applies the treatment further away from the brainstem, which has shown promise for reducing side effects in other studies.
To participate in the trial, individuals must be at least 18 years old and have either idiopathic TN or TN related to MS. They should also be able to understand the consent form in English and be available for follow-ups. Participants will receive gamma knife radiosurgery as part of their standard care and will be monitored for pain relief and any complications. This trial is currently recruiting participants and aims to improve not just pain management but also the overall quality of life for those living with this challenging condition.
