ClinConnect Summary
This clinical trial, titled "Driving After Shoulder Surgery," is designed to help understand when it's safe for patients to return to driving after undergoing shoulder surgery, specifically for rotator cuff repairs or shoulder replacements. Participants in the study will complete driving simulator assessments at ATI Physical Therapy for up to 12 weeks after their surgery. These assessments will help determine if they are fit to drive again. Additionally, patients will undergo standard evaluations to check their recovery progress, including their range of motion and strength in the shoulder.
To be eligible for the study, patients must be having surgery for a rotator cuff repair or shoulder arthroplasty and receive physical therapy at the ATI Patewood clinic. They should be capable of following instructions in English and have been regular drivers before their injury. Participants will also need to be committed to completing all study assessments. However, individuals who have had shoulder surgery in the past 90 days or have certain neurological conditions will not be included in the trial. Once a participant successfully passes the driving simulator test, their involvement in the study will conclude.
